Born: Worcester, MA
Grew up: Charlton, MA – "which has the unfortunate claim of having the highest proportion of Bush supporters in the state of Massachusetts in the 2004 election."
School: University of Rochester

How did you get started with Grassroots Campaigns?
“I received an email that was sent out on a campus list-serve at the University of Rochester. The email was about ‘Jobs to Defeat Bush’, I responded to it and went to an info session at school. Then I set up an interview in Boston.
“I was offered a position as an Assistant Director and went to training in DC at the end of May. I was initially hired as an Assistant Director for the Pasadena office and I ran into Matt Dundas who worked with me in my past activist work as a canvasser. I found out he was going to be the Regional Director in the Northwest and parts of California. After our meeting he offered me the Lead Director position in LA, directing the street canvass team."
“I got to LA (which is very different from Charlton, MA) and started the office from the ground up, by the end of the campaign we were one of the highest averaging office in the country – we raised about $400,000 for the DNC.”
Had you ever been to LA before?
“I’d been to the West Coast before, but not LA. It is a huge change from the East Coast – the biggest difference is not having easy access to different parts of the city. There’s not any public transportation that’s worth taking.”
Why Activism?
“ In college I did some canvassing with other grassroots fundraising groups. I have always been an environmentalist. I am an avid hiker and backpacker, and concern for the environment led me to the liberal ideals that I have now. I developed that view when I was canvassing and when I found out about this job opportunity, it was perfect timing. There was nothing I wanted to do more than this.”
What inspired you to keep doing this work after the election?
“Well, we lost a battle but I would like to think we can still win the war. There is no way we should give up now.”
